The first technique features a straight jab, side elbow, and cross jab in that order. The second has a barrage of low kicks, followed by a clinch and side elbow to the opponent’s face. The last one is a little more complex. It begins with a switch and angle kick, followed by a cross jab. To top it all off, there’s a clinch and cross knee to end the routine.

We’ve now arrived at Pad Work Combination 5 in your Muay Thai fight training. As before, this involves a striker delivering a series of attacks and a pad-holder blocking them in quick succession. The moves are predetermined and agreed between the two before the training session begins. Similar to the previous combinations, this one has three techniques as well.

Technique 12 – Punch and Elbow

This technique involves two punches and an elbow. The striker begins with a straight jab from the lead leg which hits the protection donned by the pad-holder. This is combined with a side elbow, and finished with a powerful cross jab delivered by the rear hand.

Technique 13 – Elbow and Low Kick

In this, the striker attacks with continuous low kicks, almost like a barrage. When the opponent shows signs of being weakened, the striker clinches with the lead hand and finishes off with a side elbow to the opponent’s face. The continuous volley of kicks is particularly effective in developing the striker’s stamina, speed, and strength.

Technique 14 – Angle Kick and Punch

For this routine, the striker begins by first attacking with a switch and angle kick from his lead leg. This is followed by a rear leg cross jab to the opponent’s face. That’s not all – a clinch and rear leg cross knee finish up the training.

That completes Combination 5 in Muay Thai pad work. There’re still another five combinations remaining in this crucial part of your fight training. Continue reading and learning!
