In the last blog, we discussed Kata Heian Sandan. Now we look at the techniques for purple belts. For Karateka to learn the basics of each belt, they need to be proficient with a set of techniques before they get to the next level. These techniques are a combination of stances, blocks, punches, kicks, strikes, sweeps, etc.

In this blog, we will learn the basic techniques necessary for a purple belt Karateka. They are done in a forward-stance position. Kicks form a major part of these techniques. Go through the previous blogs if you don’t have a good understanding of kicks in Karate.

  1. Move forward, down block, reverse punch, inner forearm block, back leg front kick, leg back, down block
  2. Move forward, upper block, reverse punch, outer forearm block, back leg side kick, leg back, upper block
  3. Move forward, inner forearm block, reverse punch, upper block, back leg turning kick, leg back, inner forearm block
  4. Move forward, outer forearm block, reverse punch, down block, back leg back kick forward, leg back, forward stance, outer forearm block

All these techniques are to be done in a forward moving position and in a backward moving position. They aim at building basic defense and counterattack capabilities in a Karateka. The only way to improve your technique is to practice regularly. In our next blog, we will look at the movements in Kata Heian Yondan. Keep reading and learning.
