Pattern of movements for Kata Kanku Sho

The Karateka uses the following: Double-hand block; Lunge-punch and forearm twist; Added hand grasping block; Front kick/both hands pulling; Vertical back fist strike; Inside block; Reverse punch; Punch; Inside/down block; Downward swinging strike; Vertical back fist strike; Front elbow strike.

In the last blog, we looked at Kata Bassai Dai. This blog is on Kata Kanku Sho. It is the lighter version of Kata Kanku Dai. It involves punches, blocks, kicks, strikes, jumps, multiple direction changes and several different stances with moves including:

  • Double-hand block
  • Lunge-punch and forearm twist
  • Added hand grasping block
  • Front kick/both hands pulling
  • Vertical back fist strike
  • Inside block
  • Reverse punch
  • Punch
  • Inside/down block
  • Downward swinging strike
  • Vertical back fist strike
  • Front elbow strike

These moves would be familiar to you, having read through the previous blogs. But the key to mastering this Kata is practicing these movements in a sequence and getting it right every time.
