Place your index finger, ring finger and the middle finger spread across the seam, however, on top of the ball. The thumb stays beneath for the best grip. Here, the main difference is that when you release the ball, the front part of your palm should face the batter.
One of the most talented cricketers from South Africa, your coach has been involved in some of the greatest knocks in the history of international cricket – six sixes in an over in ODI, and 175 from 111 balls among others. He is one of only ten batsmen in ODI history to score three consecutive hundreds.
Here is a great trick up your sleeve to master as a spin bowler. Moving from learning to perfect the Carom Ball in the last blog post, today’s post will give you an in-depth analysis of how to perfect the Slider. We hope you are as excited as we are. Let’s start bowling!
When you aspire to become a spin bowler, it’s important that you commit yourself to learning different ways to spin the ball. We hope the last blog post about the Carom Ball was interesting to learn. After reading this post, we assure you that you will have everything you need to master the Slider, from the grip to the release and everything in between. Essentially, the Slider for a right-handed spin bowler is the same as when a leg spinner bowls the perfect flipper.
Moving on to the grip, it’s more or less similar. Place your index finger, ring finger and the middle finger across the seam and on top of the ball. The thumb rests under the ball for the best technique. Now, when you release the ball, ensure that the front part of your palm is actually facing the batter.
To master the Slider, move your thumb in the forward direction, while the other fingers are pulled back during the release of the ball. In this case, after the first bounce, the ball rushes on to the batter, cramping them for room on the back foot. Practise hard as bowling the Slider requires precision control of your fingers.
For the next post, we delve into the finger spin.
